Canine influenza is a contagious respiratory virus that spreads between dogs, especially in group settings. It’s not considered a vaccine every dog needs — it’s most useful for dogs with a higher chance of exposure to other dogs.

This vaccine may be worth considering if your dog:
- Travels with you regularly
- Attends boarding, daycare, or grooming facilities
- Frequently interacts with other dogs in group settings
Dogs who stay mostly at home with limited contact with other dogs are at lower risk.
What it can cause
Canine influenza can cause coughing, sneezing, nasal discharge, and fatigue. Most dogs recover, though the virus can spread quickly where dogs gather.
Booster Schedule
- Initial series: 2 doses, given 2–4 weeks apart
- Annual revaccination for all dogs going forward

Most dogs tolerate the Influenza vaccine well, with mild and temporary side effects if any.
